🤯 Did you know that just after giving birth, you (should) receive the highest rush of oxytocin you will ever have in your life? No wonder that moment is so addictive!

What is oxytocin? It is the love hormone. It is released into your body during moments like chatting with a friend, patting a pet, watching your child play happily, kissing, cuddling, sex... and birth! It is what helps you bond with your baby 💕

What position were you in when you pushed your baby out? Squatting? Hands and knees? Standing?

🤍 Positioning can play a huge part in your baby's birth. Did you know that pushing on your back means that your pelvic opening is narrower and more difficult for your baby to move through? It also works against gravity.

🤍 I have never witnessed a woman voluntarily choose to give birth on her back, and I have attended over 40 births. Have you?

⚠️ Don't allow people into your space who don't align!

❓What do I mean by this? Well, who you have in your birthspace can greatly impact your experience. If you allow a midwife who you don't align with, is she going to bring unwanted interventions and/or energy? If you allow your mum are you going to be concerned about her and not focussed on yourself? If you allow that friend in the space are they going to bring fear and doubt?

🙏 Consider carefully what each person will bring to your space

🕒 It is not too late to uninvite someone to your birth or switch care providers!

I love how calm and beautiful these photos are, showing that helping baby take their first breath doesn't have to be rushed, stressed, or involve separating baby from mum or their umbilical cord...

It is quite COMMON for babies not to take a breath immediately, often they just need time and sometimes they need help.

I have witnessed incredible mums breathe into their own babies' mouths to help them get started. What could be more safe and calm than receiving your first breath from your own mumma?
